Today, we want to share with you a couple of our favorite personal safety tips. While these are not a guarantee, and you should always dial 9-1-1 if you are in danger, implement these safety tips to help raise awareness of your surroundings and aid in your overall security in everyday life.

  • You just got home from a long day of work and the sun is shining. You decide to lace up your sneakers and go for a walk or jog. Invite a friend to go with, if you don’t have anyone to join you, take your dog, especially one that is inclined to bark at strangers. Although you don’t always want your dog to bark, it can be helpful for your safety if they occasionally bark at someone they are weary of, or if they notice something that we don’t.
  • If you are inclined to listen to music while you are out enjoying the sunshine, keep your volume low. It helps to hear what is going on around you including someone behind you, or a car honking.
  • One of my favorite tips and one that I practice daily, having my keys out and ready when I leave somewhere. When you leave, unlock your car and get right in and lock the doors. Don’t waste time fumbling for your keys, it makes for a distraction and a moment when you are not actively attentive to your surroundings. Plus, if you have a key fob for your car, you can press the panic button in case of emergency. If your keys were at the bottom of your purse, that wouldn’t be an option.
